Telecommunication operators have committed about $1 billion to network expansion and upgrade efforts in 2025, according to Aminu Maida, the executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
He disclosed this at a colloquium on a ‘Legislative Agenda: The Nigerian Communications Act 2003’ on Tuesday. The NCC boss noted that the $1 billion was more than what was invested last year and more than double what was invested in 2023.
He stated that some of these equipment are yet to be built by Original Equipment Manufacturers, while orders have been placed for some already, and they would soon come in. Maida emphasised that this would have a positive effect on telecom services in the country when it fully rolls out.
