The aviation industry in Africa is a significant contributor to the continent's economy, providing 7.7 million jobs and $63 billion in African economic activity. To promote growth, the industry has taken steps to improve safety, security, and infrastructure, reduce carbon emissions, and create a unified air transport market through the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

The aviation industry in Nigeria grew significantly between 2020 and 2021 and is one of Africa’s biggest hubs for air travel. Ghana plans to increase the number of functional airports from five to ten. The South African aviation sector is valued at $9.4 billion and is one of the largest contributors to the sector in Africa. The aviation sector in Kenya is highly regulated and estimated to contribute $3.2 billion (4.6%) to GDP. Côte d'Ivoire is currently investing in infrastructure and supporting the local airline industry. Senegal is regulated by the Senegal Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), which is committed to improving safety, security, and infrastructure, reducing emissions, and recovering from the impact of COVID-19.

There is an increase in the number of low-cost carriers together with a significant growth in connectivity with the opening of new routes across the continent. Security and Infrastructure upgrades are also underway to ensure safer travel.
