Nigeria: Our Home Market
Nigeria is Commercium Africa's home market and the foundation of our work across the continent. From our headquarters in Lagos, we support international companies, trade agencies, institutions and investors seeking to understand the market, build the right relationships and move from market interest to practical commercial engagement.
Our experience in Nigeria stretches back to 2009, when the business operated as Naijalink. That long-term presence has given us a practical understanding of how opportunities develop, how decisions are made and where local knowledge can make the difference between a promising idea and a workable market strategy.
A Market of Scale and Commercial Depth
Nigeria offers significant commercial potential across sectors including agriculture and food processing, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, consumer goods, education and infrastructure.
But the size of the market can also make it easy to approach too broadly. Lagos is the country's principal private-sector commercial centre, while Abuja is especially important for government, regulators, development institutions and national stakeholders. Depending on the sector, relevant activity may also sit in other states, industrial clusters or production centres.
The right route to market can vary considerably. Some companies need strong distributors or local commercial partners. Others need direct access to major corporate buyers, institutions, regulators or project owners. Understanding where the opportunity actually sits is more useful than simply knowing that the market is large.
Succeeding in Nigeria Requires More Than Market Research
Nigeria rewards preparation, local context and strong relationship management.
A long contact list is not the same as access to the right organisations. A distributor with an impressive profile is not necessarily the right partner. And a strategy developed entirely from outside the country can miss practical issues around procurement, regulation, logistics, pricing, competition and decision-making.
Strong market entry therefore combines research with direct engagement. Prospective partners need to be qualified, assumptions need to be tested and conversations need to continue beyond the first introduction.
For international organisations, this often means understanding not only who to speak to, but who influences the decision, what a credible commercial structure looks like and how quickly conditions can change on the ground.
On the Ground in Nigeria
Nigeria is where Commercium Africa's operating experience, network and institutional knowledge are deepest.
Over the years, we have supported international companies, trade organisations, embassies, institutions and other organisations engaging the Nigerian market through export development, market visits, stakeholder programmes, investment projects and longer-term local activity.
Our role is to help clients move beyond broad market information into structured commercial engagement, while bringing in relevant legal, regulatory, tax or technical specialists where a project requires expertise outside our own scope.
